A Matter of Balance
is delivered to older adults in community settings, such as senior residences, recreational centers, and congregate meal sites.

A free evidence-based workshop series, developed by Maine Health, that reduces the fear of falling, stops the falling cycle, and increase activity levels among older adults.

Eligibility & Referral Information

  • Essex County Resident
  • Adults 60 years and over

Program Components

  • Weekly Workshops for 8 weeks. Curriculum focuses on managing the fear of falling, fall prevention, getting up from a fall, exercises to improve balance and reduce the risk of falls

Examples of Issues We Address

  • Fear of falling
  • Assertiveness
  • Managing environmental risks for falls
  • Discussing falls with family and physicians
  • Strengthening muscles and joints to reduce falls
