Multiple convenient locations throughout urban Essex County

OTARY (Outreach to At-Risk Youth) provides group-based prevention services for at-risk youth, employing evidence-based curricula supported by incentives and transportation for participants to address their risks of teen pregnancy, teen violence, and gang involvement.

Eligibility & Referral Information

Youth between the ages of 10 – 21 who are:

  • Essex County residents
  • At risk for Violence, Teen Pregnancy, STIs or other High Risk Behaviors
  • Agree to attend weekly group sessions
  • Have a legal guardian or other family member(s) who will be willing to participate in program activities when available
  • PLEASE NOTE: OTARY may NOT be suitable for youth who may not function well in group settings

  • Age-appropriate time-limited group counseling
  • Evidence-based prevention curricula
  • Incentives
  • Transportation assistance
  • Groups offered in convenient locations throughout the community
  • Recreational field trips
  • Coordination with and referrals to other services
  • Mental health / psychiatric services, if needed
  • A parent support group offered to the parents of teens in Essex County
  • Peer mentoring
