Family Reunification, Outreach,
& Foster Care Services
While it is true that some families face insurmountable challenges, in most cases, the inherent strengths of the family can bring about powerful change. For children placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect, the removal from their abusive home and biological parents is itself another trauma. The primary goals of our foster care and reunification programs are:
Reunity House (located in South Orange) is a therapeutic supervised visitation program to reunite families separated due to abuse or neglect. The program incorporates family therapy, parenting skills training, peer support, recreation, and progressively-longer family visits in a home-like setting to build strong, healthy relationships and thus achieve safe and lasting family reunification.
Adolescent Crisis Intervention Program (ACIP), delivers intensive in-home counseling to develop the coping skills of teenagers and their families dealing with high-risk behaviors and family conflict.
Foster Parent & Foster Child Support Services, provides intensive, holistic, in-home needs assessments of both children and foster parents throughout Essex, Union, and Middlesex Counties, to maximize the chances for safe, nurturing, long-term placements.
Community Case Management Program operates out of local DYFS offices, serving families who do not require DYFS monitoring but who would nonetheless benefit from support services. These services are delivered directly in the home and include thorough needs assessments, case management, and mental health treatment.
